Four Southwest Georgia Technical College students have been selected as college semi-finalists for the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL), according to Ellen Terrell, coordinator for the College’s GOAL program. The Technical College System of Georgia sponsors the GOAL program at the state level. Locally, GOAL is sponsored by the SWGTC Student Council, SWGTC Foundation, and the Thomasville Kiwanis Club.
“The purpose of the GOAL program is to spotlight the importance of technical education in today’s working world,” said Terrell. “It is a great opportunity to recognize the outstanding accomplishments by the students in Georgia’s technical colleges. The award is for excellence in leadership and academic achievement.”
Twenty-two students were nominated by their instructors for this award. A screening committee of community and business leaders interviewed each student and four semi-finalists were chosen. Students chosen as semi-finalists and their nominating instructors are:
The four semi-finalists will be interviewed and evaluated by a selection committee of representatives from business and industry. The student judged most outstanding will be designated SWGTC’s GOAL winner and will represent the College at the state level. The state GOAL winner will also have the honor of being named the Technical College System of Georgia’s 2008 Student of the Year and will serve as an ambassador for technical education.
