SWGTC's Ryan Jorge attends

National PBL Competition

Ryan Jorge, a Computer Information Systems Administrator student at Southwest Georgia Technical College (SWGTC) recently attended the National Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) conference and competition held in Nashville, Tennessee.

 Jorge represented SWGTC and the Technical College System of Georgia after securing a slot in the competition by winning high honors at the Georgia PBL competition, which was held in Atlanta earlier this summer

At the state level competition, Jorge won first place in Web Site Design and third place in Cyber Security. At the national competition, Jorge competed in cyber security and website design.

“SWGTC is proud of Ryan,” said Lorette Hoover, Interim President of SWGTC. “He is an excellent representative of our College and of our state. He worked very hard, and is an outstanding individual.”

“Ryan did a great job at the competition,” said Grant MacDonnell, SWGTC instructor and advisor for PBL. “It was a positive experience for him to be able to compete with PBL members from all 50 states.”

While in Nashville, competitors and club advisors networked and attended workshops to promote leadership development.  

“The four-day national conference and competition is considered the pinnacle of the FBLA-PBL experience,” said MacDonnell. “FBLA-PBL has forged partnerships with industry leaders to underwrite competitive events and scholarships for students achieving national ranking.”

“This entire process has been a great experience for me,” said Jorge. “I have learned a lot through the different levels of competition. It has allowed me to test my skills and meet others who share my interests in web design and cyber security.”
