No, the cost of the books is separate from the tuition; you can check with your program advisor for the cost of program books or call the bookstore at 229-225-5204.
Does Southwest Georgia Technical College have a senior citizen rate
Residents of Georgia who are 62 years of age or older may request a tuition waiver. If tuition is waived under this policy, admission will be granted only on a space available basis. Proof of age must be presented at registration to receive a tuition waiver. This policy applies to regular and institutional credit courses only. It does not apply to continuing education courses, non-credit courses, or seminars.
Do you offer any services for disabled students?
Yes, Southwest Georgia Technical College can provide classroom accommodations, and/or adaptive equipment. Documentation will be needed before services will be provided. Interested students should contact: Jeanine Long at 229.227.2668.
What is a program student?
A program student is one who has completed the admissions requirements and received an acceptance letter for a degree, diploma, or certificate program.
Does Southwest Georgia Technical College offer classes for calculus
Southwest Georgia Technical College offers a regular Chemistry class but does not offer a class in calculus.
I am an international student. What do I have to do to be accepted?
Southwest Georgia Technical College accepts international students who are not U.S. residents but have provided documentation that they have received a Georgia High School Diploma, Georgia G.E.D. or other documentation establishing they are legally in the country, such as a green card.
Southwest Georgia Technical College is not approved by the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) as an I-20 school. We do not accept students with F & M visas.
You must have your transcripts officially evaluated from an evaluation agency such as Joseph Silny and Associates or WES. Please check online if you need an official form at www.naces.org. If you are requesting college transcripts you will want to request a course-by-course evaluation. High School transcripts should be evaluated as document-by-document. What is the process for enrolling at Southwest Georgia Technical
Complete the admissions application with the $20 application fee. For first time applicants with a high school diploma, but no previous college credits, you should submit an official high school transcript, an official record of your SAT or ACT scores. If these results are more than five years old, you will have to take Southwest Georgia Technical College’s COMPASS exam for placement or submit an official record of a COMPASS or ASSET exam.
If you have previous college credits of less than 30 semester hours or less than 45 quarter hours you should submit an official college transcript and official high school transcript.
If you have earned more than 30 semester hours or more than 45 quarter hours you should submit an official college transcript from all colleges attended.
Where can I get an application?
Applications can be picked up from the Admissions Office located in Building A on the main campus, or mailed to your home address; applicants may also download an application from our website at www.southwestgatech.edu.
Can I fax my transcripts?
No. Faxed transcripts are not considered official. Transcripts must either be mailed directly from the institution or can be hand carried in an official sealed envelope.

Do I need to send my transcript from high school even if I have a
Some programs will require an official copy of your high school transcript. This will be determined on an individual basis.
What do I need to do if I did not attend Southwest Georgia Technical
College in the semester for which I applied?
If a student does not attend for the term specified, the student must be re-admitted after 2 semesters. The student record must be current in order to register for classes.
How do I change to a different program of study?
A change of program form must be filled out, in person, and submitted to the Admissions Office.
What programs are day only?
Most allied health programs are offered only during the day.
What times do day classes usually run?
Day classes are from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.
What programs offer evening classes?
Most all programs offer some of their classes in the evenings.

How do I get an advisor?
An advisor will be assigned to each student upon acceptance to the College.
I have some college credit, will any credits transfer?
A transcript specialist in consultation with the Registrar will look over the official transcript and decide what credits are able to transfer.
If I take some classes at Southwest Georgia Technical College, will
those credits transfer to a four year University?
It is up to the receiving institution as to what credits they will accept.

A minimum grade of “C” is needed in all courses that you would like to receive transfer credit.

If I decided to drop a class when would the refund check be issued?
Refund checks are issued two and a half weeks after the first day of classes for each semester.

I have attended Southwest Georgia Technical College in the past,
what do I need to do in order to be enrolled again?
If it has been over six months, you must submit an application for re- admission but you do not have to pay the application fee again. If you have attended another school since your attendance at Southwest Georgia Technical College, you must send an official transcript from that institution. If your last date of attendance was five (5) years ago or over, you must submit official transcripts from high school or GED and any college(s).
What is the minimum educational requirement for the programs at
Southwest Georgia Technical College?
Students who attend Southwest Georgia Technical College must have a high school diploma or a GED. Some certificate programs do not require a high school diploma for admission. See SWGTC catalog.
What is a special admit student?
Special admit students are those who want to take credit courses, but do not plan to pursue a degree, diploma or certificate. Special admit students do not qualify for financial aid.
If I am applying as a special admit student, do I still need to have my
Special admit students are not required to provide copies of transcripts unless they need to verify that a prerequisite requirement has been met.
How many credit hours can I take as a special admit student before I
have to declare a program?
Special admit students can receive credit for an unlimited number of courses but may transfer only 25 credit hours into a specific program for award seeking purposes. The students have the prerogative of applying for regular student status but must meet the requirements of the regular student admissions process. This includes the State approved assessment process. The number of hours taken as a special admit student in no way waives the requirements of the regular admission process.
What is a transient student?
Transient students are students that are currently enrolled at another post secondary institution and want to take credit classes at Southwest Georgia Technical College. Transient students must submit an application, pay the $20 application fee, and submit a transient letter from the home institution.
How do I get a transient letter?
You must request a transient letter from the Registrar’s Office.
What are the requirements to be a Georgia resident?
To be classified as an in-state student for tuition purposes, an individual must show that he or she has been a legal resident of Georgia for a period of no less than twelve (12) months immediately preceding the date of registration. Further, the State of Georgia requires not only recent physical presence in Georgia, but also the element of intent to remain indefinitely. Out-of-state students who move to Georgia may apply for change of status after 12 months of residency.
What proof do I need to qualify for in-state status?
Documentation to prove intent to remain a Georgia resident must be presented. Proof of intent can be, but not limited to, driver’s license, voter registration card, and automobile registration.
What post-secondary credit opportunities are available for high
Dual Enrollment: Students can earn credit both from high school and from Southwest Georgia Technical College while still in high school. Tuition, fees, and books are HOPE Grant eligible.
Joint Enrollment: High school students enrolled in this program will only earn credit from Southwest Georgia Technical College. Tuition, fees, and books are available to students enrolled in HOPE eligible programs. Students must be 16 years of age and meet all College admission requirements for their selected program of study.
Accel: The purpose of the ACCEL Program is to provide Georgia high school students with the opportunity to earn degree level credit hours at Southwest Georgia Technical College, as they simultaneously meet their high school graduation requirements. This program offers these students the option to begin working toward a college degree, while still pursuing a high school diploma.
When is the application deadline for acceptance?
Southwest Georgia Technical College does not utilize an application deadline for most programs. Some of the allied health programs do have a deadline date in place. Contact the Student Affairs office for further information.
I haven’t taken the COMPASS, can I still register?
You may register only as a “Special Admit” student if you have not taken the Admissions Placement Exam (COMPASS). Applicants to associate degree, diploma or certificate programs must take Southwest Georgia Technical College’s admission test, COMPASS, unless acceptable SAT, ACT, or ASSET scores taken within the past five years are submitted or if college course work satisfies this requirement.
If I am a learning support student, who is my advisor? What can I register to take?
Your advisor is assigned at the time of acceptance. Learning Support students may take only their designated learning support classes.

Students can not register for more than 21 hours within a semester without the written permission ofthe Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Advisement is an important part of the registration process. After you meet with your advisor you may register over the internet at https://swgtc16.southwestgatech.edu. Computers are available during early registration. Check with Student Affairs office for location.

How much is the late registration fee?
A fee of $30 will be charged to students for late registration.
What are Learning Support courses?
Learning Support courses are for students who do not meet the testing requirements for their program of choice.
Does Southwest Georgia Technical College offer on-line courses?
Southwest Georgia Technical College offers on-line courses for several programs at the college. Check the schedule of classes to see what courses are being offered on-line this semester.
What do I have to do to make the President’s List?
To make the President’s List a student must be enrolled full-time (12 credit hours or more – not including Learning Support classes). Students must also earn a grade of “A” in all course work attempted.
What GPA does an honor graduate need?
A cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher is needed in order to be considered an honor graduate.
Do I need to complete an application for graduation?
YES, students must complete an application for graduation.
When should I apply for graduation?
Students that will be completing their graduation requirements should apply for graduation before they register for their last semester of classes.
How much is the graduation fee?
Students must pay a $35 fee to participate in the graduation ceremony.
Will I be notified of acceptance into the program that I applied to?
All applicants are notified in writing of their admissions status to their program of choice.
