SWGTC Foundation Golf Tournament Scheduled at Glen Arven Country Club

Southwest Georgia Technical College’s (SWGTC) Foundation Board of Trustees will hold their 12th Annual Thomas County Golf Tournament at Glen Arven Country Club on Monday, February 24, 2014. Participation in the tournament will help support the SWGTC Foundation as it provides student scholarships, emergency assistance for students, new equipment purchases, and technical upgrades at SWGTC.

“This event allows us to continue fund scholarships that reward exceptional students and help those in financial need. These opportunities have become a vital resource for our students, and often make the difference in whether a student will complete their program or not. We encourage our community partners to put a team together for this year’s Tournament, and thank those who have already committed. Your participation in our Tournament may just be a golf game to you, but could allow someone else to achieve their life’s dream,” Amy Maison, Executive Director of Institutional Advancement, Marketing and Public Relations.

The Tournament format is 4-person team scramble with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Tournament incentives includes generous gift certificates from the Glen Arven Pro Shop for the top 4 teams, and special prizes for “Closest to the Pin” on a par-3 hole and “Longest Drive” on a par-5 hole. There will also be many raffle prizes, which include a custom-built smoker made by SWGTC’s own Welding & Joining Technology Program.

“Our students, and others trying to continue their education, are feeling the effects of a tough economic climate, just like everyone else. However, with the support of our extremely generous community, our Foundation is able to fund students with extreme financial burdens. This support allows the student to not only stay enrolled in their courses, but also to focus on their coursework and not the financial component of education,” Dr. Craig Wentworth, SWGTC President.

Incorporated in 1991, The SWGTC Foundation is a non-profit corporation which strives to promote the cause of higher education and expand educational opportunities to the students of SWGTC. The Foundation endeavors to create scholarships and endowments, assist in the financing of capital improvements, and provide the students of South Georgia with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities.

Registrations and sponsorships are now being accepted! If you have any questions, please contact Brittany McInvale at (229) 227-2415 or bmcinvale@southwestgatech.edu.
