Occupational Safety and Health Administration Course

Southwest Georgia Technical College is now offering an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Safety Training course. With the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, Congress created the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to ensure safe and healthful working conditions for working men and women by setting and enforcing standards and by providing training, outreach, education and assistance. Many businesses, such as hospitals, factories, and manufacturing plants, require employees to take this course to ensure compliance with OSHA and other organizations.

The OSHA 10-hour general industry course provides a proactive opportunity to ensure your safety programs will meet or exceed “best practices” and provide the best possible safety training for your employees. The first six hours of this course cover the following OSHA–mandated topics: Introduction to OSHA, which includes information on OSHA inspections, citations and penalties, walking and working surfaces, personal protective equipment (PPE), basic electrical safety, and hazardous communications. The remaining four hours of the class will include machine guarding, fall protection, ergonomics, and emergency action plans. Attendees will receive certificates and cards in accordance with Southwest Georgia Technical College and OSHA Guidelines.

“Being prepared for an OSHA inspection can be a difficult assignment unless you have some insight into what to expect. OSHA has the power to issue citations which not only can be costly but can also impact the way you are able to conduct your business. Having prior knowledge about OSHA in general can help a safety manager ensure that the organization operates in the safest possible manner and is prepared for an unexpected OSHA visit. Attendees receive an OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Course card from Georgia Tech which shows that participants have received this OSHA outreach training,” said Gary Pitts, Vice President of Economic Development at SWGTC.

This course will be available at SWGTC on June 28 from 1-5 PM, June 29 from 1-4 PM, and June 30 from 1-4 PM and costs $195.00. This course is offered through the Economic Development Department, along with the many other personal enrichment and training courses they offer.  For more information on this course please contact Economic Development at (229) 227 – 2579.

SWGTC offers more than 80 certificate, diploma, and degree programs. Many of these programs provide training for some of the nation’s fastest-growing career fields including Nursing, Automotive Technology, Clinical Laboratory Technology, and Criminal Justice Technology.
